The horror genre contains numerous classics that have terrified audiences for generations. Naturally, many of these classics are revisited for newer viewers, and that happens to be the case with one beloved horror movie. This particular horror movie is receiving a remake of sorts from a pair of popular filmmakers.
The two filmmakers, Joseph and Vanessa Winter, are a married couple that previously crafted the found footage horror movie Deadstream.
However, following the success of that particular endeavor, they’re now headed in a very different direction for their next horror entry. This movie isn’t exactly a traditional remake, and it seems to exist outside of the rights for the original horror film franchise.
The new film will actually be an original tale inspired by the supernatural allegations surrounding the house, and neither the DeFeo murders nor the Lutz family will factor into the plot.
As shared via Deadline:
“The genre maestros at BoulderLight Pictures (Barbarian) and Divide/Conquer (Heart Eyes) are teaming on Amityville, a radical new spin on the famed haunted house story for a new generation.”
The two studios behind this project have a history of successes within the horror genre, and as such, they’re teaming up with the writer and director team of Joseph and Vanessa Winter to unofficially remake The Amityville Horror – now simply-titled Amityville.
Additionally, it’s been shared that Raphael Margules & J.D. Lifshitz will produce for BoulderLight, alongside Adam Hendricks & Greg Gilreath for Divide/Conquer. Other details regarding the project have yet to be revealed, and the project has yet to hit any studios but they want to have production ready by the fourth quarter of this year.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Amityville as we have them. With so many Amityville films having been released over the years, it’ll be nice if this new interpretation can strike a chord with longtime fans of the property in addition to new viewers.
