It’s been a long time since the first Avatar movie was released in 2009. Fortunately, however, the wait for the sequels has come to an end, with each installment now coming at a steady pace following the release of Avatar: The Way of Water in 2022. Now the third film in the series, Avatar: Fire and Ash, will be headed our way this year and the first trailer has been released.
The first trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash was first shown ahead of The Fantastic Four: First Steps in theaters. Now that it’s made its way online, however, fans are able to enjoy the first glimpse at our latest trip to Pandora. James Cameron‘s sci-fi blockbusters Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water have proven to be quite successful, and if this footage is any indication, Avatar: Fire and Ash will once again push boundaries for digital technologies and modern filmmaking techniques.
Of course, fans should also be interested in what the story for the film has to offer. The narrative picks up following the events of Avatar: The Way of Water with the Sully family as they encounter a new Na’vi tribe known as the “Ash People.” This naturally suits the anger and grief the Sully family feels as they deal with the death of Neteyam and sets the stage for the new story.

More than a decade has passed since the release of James Cameron’s Avatar in 2009, so it’s exciting to see where these sequels he’s had planned for so long are going. Now Fire and Ash will further dive into the mythology that Pandora has to offer and the new types of Na’vi that will help lead audiences through the story.
Avatar: Fire and Ash is scheduled to hit theaters on December 19, 2025.
