The 2017 adaptation of Stephen King’s 1986 novel IT was a huge success at the box office and a sequel followed in 2019 to finish adapting the main storyline of the book. Now, years later, a prequel series is finally on the way titled IT: Welcome to Derry, and as you can see in the teaser trailer below, it will feature the return of Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise.
Bill Skarsgård‘s performance as the alien character was universally praised by fans and critics, with the actor giving life to a character that feeds on the fears of children by becoming what they’re most afraid of. Pennywise happens to be the character’s default transformation, one that’s used to lure children before the bigger transformation takes place.
As for IT: Welcome to Derry, it will delve deeper into the character’s past and that of the town Derry where the story takes place, with the first season set in 1962. This will set the stage for the story of the 2017 film, though interestingly the series is already being planned for further seasons set in 1935 and 1908, respectively, further digging up the history of the town and Pennywise.

Stephen King‘s novel has more than enough lore to mine for a television series, so it’s exciting to see that’s the direction Warner Bros. decided to take when continuing this popular take on Pennywise and the original book. More details should come our way in the next few months as we approach the show’s release date later this year, but for now, this teaser trailer is certainly enough to get IT fans hyped for IT: Welcome to Derry.
In addition to Bill Skarsgård, the first season of the series also stars Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Madeleine Stowe, and Stephen Rider. Other cast members include Alixandra Fuchs, Kimberly Guerrero, Dorian Grey, Thomas Mitchell, BJ Harrison, Peter Outerbridge, Shane Marriott, Chad Rook, Joshua Odjick, Rudy Mancuso, and Morningstar Angeline.
Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane serve as co-showrunners on the series.
