One of the next major projects coming in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the Avengers film Avengers: Doomsday. The new movie will combine superhero characters from a number of different continuities, including MCU characters, Fox’s X-Men, and the newly-introduced Fantastic Four team. Now a troubling rumor regarding the production of Avengers: Doomsday has been confirmed by a Marvel star.
Rumors surrounding projects like Avengers: Doomsday are no surprise, especially with the intense productions and the countless fans eyeing the projects each and every day. Some of these rumors turn out to be completely false, however, while others do provide bits of truth. As it turns out, one of the latest rumors seems to have been correct.
For those unfamiliar, the rumor is that Avengers: Doomsday began shooting without a completed script. While this isn’t exactly an unusual practice for a Hollywood production, especially one attempting to meet a major deadline, it’s something that has fans in a cautious mood. Now that Romijin has confirmed this rumor, we’ll have to see how production continues for Avengers: Doomsday.
The legitimacy of this rumor was confirmed by X-Men franchise star Rebecca Romjin, who played Mystique in the original X-Men film series, and she’ll be reprising her role for Avengers: Doomsday. While appearing at 2025’s San Diego Comic-Con, she let slip the truth about a rumor when asked whether or not she had completed filming her scenes for the film.
Here’s what she shared via The Independent:
“The script hasn’t – they haven’t finished writing it,” she said. “It’s been very, very fun, and we don’t know yet. They keep everything very close to the vest themselves in an effort to keep everything under wraps.”
The highly-anticipated Avengers follow-up is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2026. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Avengers: Doomsday as we have them, with much more news likely following as production continues.
