It took a long time for 2009’s Orphan to get a follow-up in the form of 2022’s movie prequel Orphan: First Kill. It didn’t take as long for a third entry to get off the ground, however, as it’s now been confirmed Orphan 3 has started filming.

Fans have long considered Isabelle Fuhrman‘s Esther to be a modern day horror icon. Of course, with only one movie under her belt, it seemed unlikely that she had franchise potential. Especially given her fate at the end of the original 2009 movie. Orphan: First Kill proved otherwise, however, giving fans a prequel that even managed to bring Fuhrman back despite her age using a combination of camera and visual tricks.

Now, as confirmed via Bloody-Disgusting, Isabelle Fuhrman is coming back for Orphan 3 alongside Orphan: First Kill writer and director duo David Coggeshall and William Brent Bell. Interestingly, the working title for the film was also revealed, which is “Orphans.”

Dark Castle Entertainment Co-CEO Norman Golightly issued the following statement:

“Dark Castle is excited to announce another terrifying chapter in the Orphan saga,” he began.

“With the past success of the first two movies and another thrilling storyline, we are confident Orphan 3 will be a must-see movie for both current fans of the franchise, and new fans alike.”

Plot details for the new film are still being kept under wraps. However, the new title does suggest there will be an interesting new narrative to follow. The original film, known for its unique twist, inspired a similar plot device for its prequel. As such, it’ll be interesting to see if that will be the case the third time around, or if they’ll fully lean into Fuhrman’s Esther character as the modern-day slasher villain she deserves to be.

Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the production and filming of Orphan 3 as we have them. Hopefully this new installment will be as surprisingly good as Orphan: First Kill, especially considering how much time has passed since the original film was released in 2009.
