It’s been confirmed that Dilbert creator Scott Adams has died at age 68. The comic strip creator’s death follows a diagnosis of prostate cancer.
As shared by Variety, this news was confirmed by several members of The Scott Adams School on YouTube. Though Adams was popularly recognized for having created Dilbert, a satirical comic strip revolving around work at an office, he became a controversial figure in recent years.
The controversy started when Adams expressed his support for Donald Trump in 2015, leading to podcast episodes and additional writings in which he questioned both the Holocaust and the COVID vaccine. Eventually he called Black people a “hate group” and Dilbert was dropped from syndicated newspapers in 2023, leading Adams to relaunch the script via the subscription site Locals.
Scott’s prostate cancer diagnosis was first revealed in May 2025. He chose to reveal it at the same time Joe Biden shared a similar diagnosis. This is what he stated then:
“I have the same cancer that Joe Biden has. I also have prostate cancer that has also spread to my bones, but I’ve had it longer than he’s had it — well, longer than he’s admitted having it,” Adams said. “I expect to be checking out from this domain sometime this summer.”
He also showed support for Joe Biden’s similar condition:
“I’d like to extend my respect and compassion for the ex-president and his family. They’re going through an especially tough time, it’s a terrible disease. If you’re wondering if I’ll get better, the answer is no, it will only get worse,” he said. “There’s only one direction this goes now.”
Scott Adams is survived by his ex-wife Shelly Miles who he married in 2006 and later divorced in 2014. He is also survived by his ex-wife Kristina Basham who he married in 2020 and divorced in 2022. He had no children, though he is survived by one of two step-children from his marriage with Miles.
