Marvel Just Killed Off A MAJOR Character

    By Tyler JohnsonMay 5, 2017

After a year of slow, methodic planning, Captain America has revealed his true colors to the world, carrying the flag of Hydra. After a majority of the world’s heroes being either trapped in the Dark Dimension in New York or stranded in space at the mercy of a Chitauri invasion, Hydra rose to power over the entire country following Captain America’s lead. Things have never looked more grim for the Marvel Universe.

Spoilers for Secret Empire #1 follow.

With this new issue, we’re introduced to the horrific reality of Cap’s new America. His new team of Avengers (Thor Odinson, Scarlet Witch, Vision, the Superior Octopus, Deadpool, Taskmaster and Black Ant) carry out his orders to provide his own twisted sense of of peace through obedience. Back at Hydra, the high rank council is putting more and more pressure on Steve Rogers to squash out small pockets of resistance (led by Hawkeye, Black Widow and the consciousness of the comatose Tony Stark) called the Underground, as well the “traitor” Rick Jones, with a show of force.

Cap pleads with Rick to pledge his allegiance to Hydra and tell him who he sent encrypted Hydra files to so that he can spare his life. Rick (as we all are) is confident that the “good” Captain America will show up to save the day. He heartbreakingly proclaims, “Because you’re my hero, Cap!” Unfortunately for Rick, Madame Hydra is able to convince Steve against his compassionate nature.

On live TV, in front of the entire country, Cap broadcasts the public execution by firing squad of Rick Jones. As Rick cries out his painful last words, “Avengers assemble!” Hydra’s tentacled Helicarriers descend on Las Vegas and lay waste to the city below. Captain America has now unleashed the terrifying power he truly has.
