When it comes to Zack Snyder’s involvement in the the DC Extended Universe, fans are fairly divided. Some believe that what he has brought to the table is a needlessly dark and convoluted mess – whilst others maintain that he is the right man for the job. The director’s involvement in the franchise after next years Justice League is currently uncertain, however a recent report has revealed he may not be ready to leave just yet.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that with the recent pushing back of Justice League Part Two, Snyder is free to work on his next non-DC project, The Last Photograph. The project is aiming to begin filming late 2017 and is one that the Watchmen director has been looking to make since the mid-2000’s.
The synopsis reads:
Photograph centers on a war correspondent in Afghanistan who is the only one to survive an attack on a group of Americans. When a special ops soldier in search of a family member shows up, the two team up, with the correspondent hoping to score the story of his life.
We reported back in December (based off of alleged DCEU leaks that we also first reported) that Zack Snyder wouldn’t be directing Justice League 2 because he wanted to direct a small scale project. That appears to be somewhat true.
However, the site also talks more about his future in the world of DC explaining that Snyder is still ‘Intent on directing Justice League 2’. While this by no means confirmation of the directors return, it does show that he is not ready to vacate the director’s chair just yet. It is likely that Warner Bros. are using Justice League as a basis for whether they will offer the controversial filmmaker the chance to direct the sequel.
Based on the footage shown so far, it looks like Justice League will be more in line with what people have been looking for in regards to the films since before Man of Steel first appeared, which will possibly restore some faith in Snyder’s vision. But until the film is released on November 16th, 2017, it’s hard to know what the future may hold.
