After months of speculation as to whether Ben Affleck would continue in the DCEU after Justice League, it appears he is.
After it was announced he would be stepping down as director of The Batman, fans became increasingly worried he would leave the role completely.
Despite the fun speculation surrounding who would take up the Cape and Cowl, it looks as though Affleck is starting to get into Bat-Shape.
Umberto Gonzalez, a noted DC Comics insider has released information in an episode of Heroic Insider. According to Gonzalez, Affleck has started a new training regimen for the upcoming The Batman movie.
Gonzalez told fans:
“Ben Affleck, Batman, I just got word that he just started training again for the role. You know how there was talk that he was gonna leave and he might leave the role? Nah, bro. He’s working out. He’s getting back in shape.”
There has not been any word from Warner Bros on this yet, but it would be the right time for such work to be started. This news will excite fans after the worrying news earlier this year, but with the addition of Matt Reeves it seems to be coming together again.
With Wonder Woman slated for release in June, and Justice League released in November, it appears the DCEU is finding it’s stride.
Matt Reeves recently said in an interview that he enjoys Affleck’s take on the Caped Crusader.
“What I find so interesting about him as a character is that, as far a superhero goes, he’s not superhuman, he is a person.” Reeves said. “And he is a tortured soul who is grappling with his past and trying to find a way to be in a world that has a lot that’s wrong with it and trying to find a way to reconcile all of that.”
He also mentions how strange it is to be involved in a franchise that he grew up with, saying:
“It’s a strange thing to be involved in the two franchises which were the two that I was connected to most as a child,” Reeves said. “I just was obsessed with Batman when I was a kid.”
If all goes to plan, Wonder Woman and Justice League will be a hit and reinvigorate the DCEU in time for the release of The Batman.
Justice League is in cinemas 17th November.
