‘Get Out’ Labeled As Comedy By The Golden Globes

The Golden Globes work by categorizing films into two sections – “Drama” and “Comedy or Musical”. While most would assume a film like Jordan Peele’s Get Out would be thrown in with the drama category, given its obvious horror trademarks, it looks like that’s not the case if the film does get nominated.

According to Variety Awards Editor Kristopher Tapley, there was a meeting by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to determine the categories. Interestingly enough they decided to label Get Out a “comedy”. It makes somewhat sense given that there are some comedic moments in the movie, and director Jordan Peele has experience with the comedy genre, but Get Out is more dramatic and thrilling than anything else.

    Peele himself responded on Twitter:

    ‘Get Out’ is a documentary.

The film is even ranked as the #1 Horror Movie of all time by Rotten Tomatoes – which isn’t actually surprising, considering it had a 100% until one critic gave it a negative review.

Although it’s strange, it’s fascinating enough that the film is being considered at all for a nomination. We’ll know whether or not it gets nominated as a Comedy when the nominees for the the 75th annual Golden Globes are announced on December 11.

The actual show takes place January 8, 2018.

    In Get Out,

Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy and Dean. At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he never could have imagined.
