A new film in The Conjuring Universe was announced last week, though it doesn’t have a title yet. New Line Cinema has it on the schedule for release July 3, 2019. The Hollywood Reporter is now reporting that the film will in fact be, Annabelle 3, to the excitement of many horror fans. The writer of the Annabelle film series, Gary Dauberman, will also write this one and will make his directorial debut.
Details on the story are scarce, as THR notes:
Details are being kept secret but the story will once again focus on the porcelain doll that is possessed by a demonic force.
James Wan’s Atomic Monster and the Peter Safran Co. will produce the film once again.
In case you weren’t aware, Annabelle is part of The Conjuring universe (mentioned above), which is led by James Wan. It also includes Annabelle: Creation, the first Annabelle spin-off, and a The Conjuring 2 spin-off set to release September 7th, The Nun. The spin-off will be based on The Conjuring 2’s Crooked Man.
The first Annabelle film was directed by John R. Leonetti and earned $257 million after only costing the production company $6.5 million. Annabelle: Creation was directed by David F. Sanberg and raking in even more cash at $306.5 million and only spending $15 million.
