Topher Grace Shares His Thoughts On Tom Hardy’s Version Of Venom

Venom is getting his first feature film in October with Tom Hardy – but it’s not the character’s first live-action appearance. Spider-Man 3 featured the character played by Topher Grace, but it was widely regarded as awful. I can’t really think of anyone who liked that interpretation of the character. Well, Grace was recently asked about what he thought of Tom Hardy’s version of the character based on what we’ve seen, and he had some pretty positive things to say.

Speaking with Inverse, the actor said:

“To me — I truly mean this — I think Tom is the guy to play that role. I’m thrilled to watch it as a fan. I really mean that. I think he’s just the best dude.”

He then spoke about the Sam Raimi film, saying:

“I understand Sam’s interpretation, which was to do a dark version of Tobey [Maguire]’s character. I was thrilled because I was such a fan of the character, but I was aware of how it was different from what I had grown up reading. I thought it was cool, but I’m really excited to see [Tom Hardy’s version]. That’s the character I grew up with.”

It’s pretty cool to hear Topher Grace’s comments, as the actor himself was supposed to be in a Venom solo movie back in the day, that just never happened. Spider-Man 3 was ultimately the film that warranted an entire reboot of the franchise, so we’re not exactly surprised it didn’t go anywhere. Here’s hoping Hardy’s movie will give us a version of the character that lives up to everyone’s high expectations.

Venom hits theaters everywhere on October 5th.

What do you think of Grace’s comments? Are you a fan of Spider-Man 3? Is anyone a fan of that movie? Be sure to tell us all of your thoughts in the comments down below!
