Marvel Announces First Animated MCU Series ‘What If…?’

Marvel’s Comic-Con 2019 announcements from Hall H are driving the Internet crazy both with excitement and speculation. The announcements have included film announcements for the fourth phase of Marvel’s cinematic endeavors, as well as plenty of Disney+ content. This includes the newly announced “What If…?” which will count as the first animated series canon within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Kevin Feige announced various details regarding the series, including its cast, which includes actor Jeffrey Wright as The Watcher. The series’ cast will also apparently include a vast number of actors from the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe reprising their respective characters.

When you consider how many live-action series will comprise Marvel’s catalogue on Disney+, it’s nice to know that they’ll be taking into account some animated content as well. It’s especially fascinating that they decided to include this series with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and maintain it as canon.

As of right now, the list of stars from the Marvel Cinematic Universe involved includes Michael B. Jordan, Sebastian Stan, Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Haley Atwell, Chadwick Boseman, Karen Gillan, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Neal McDonough, Dominic Cooper, Sean Gunn, Natalie Portman, David Dastmalchian, Stanley Tucci, Taika Waititi, Toby Jones, Djimon Hounsou, Jeff Goldblum, Michael Rooker, and Chris Sullivan.

It’ll definitely be interesting getting to see a Twilight Zone-esque twist on Marvel, with changing perspectives and stories regarding animated versions of our beloved live-action interpretations of these iconic characters. The possibilities really are endless.

Marvel’s new series What If…? will premiere on Disney+ in the Summer of 2021.
