When Venom was released, many fans complained that the film lacked Spider-Man. Eddie Brock’s origin from the comics involved the wall-crawler, therefore, moviegoers wanted something accurate. Although Tom Holland was playing Spider-Man in the MCU, Sony couldn’t just stick him in Venom. I don’t claim to know the necessary legal rights behind that. But fast-forward to this year, and it sounds like Tom Holland will be able to swing back and forth between each respective universe. We might get to see this new deal bear fruit when Venom 2 arrives next year. And to cause further speculation, the Venom actor posed in a Spidey suit for his social media.
Tom Hardy, who plays Eddie Brock in Venom and the upcoming Venom 2, posted a pic to his Instagram account. He quickly deleted it. But Tom Hardy Daily on Twitter retrieved that photo for fans to see and continue their speculations.

Why Hardy deleted this pic could lead into some further speculations. One theory is that he didn’t want fans to speculate at all. Another theory is that he might have released some information that he wasn’t allowed to yet. Whatever the case may be, it looks like the actor was just showing off this year’s Halloween costume.
But let’s have some fun and dive into these speculations. I’m not sure if it’s official yet, but Tom Holland is said to be able to appear in the SUMC. There’s only one installment that has been released in the SUMC so far. So people may not know that SUMC stands for Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters. Next year will place two more movies in that shared universe with Venom 2 and Morbius. When Sony first planned this universe, they wanted to showcase the characters they had rights to — which were mainly Spider-Man villains. There were even rumors that their Kraven the Hunter movie would include Spider-Man, yet played by someone actor other than Tom Holland. But now that Sony and Disney have reached a new agreement, they might not have to shop around for a new actor. Therefore, Hardy’s photo could confirm Holland in Venom 2.
To further speculate, the costume in which Hardy posed in is the Iron Spider suit Holland wears in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. So not only could this be confirmation that Spider-Man will appear in Venom 2, but that it will be Tom Holland in the suit.
Though like I said, this is probably just Hardy’s Halloween costume. There have been no official word, from Sony, Disney, Hardy, nor Holland, if these speculations are true. Hence, “speculation.”
I guess we’ll have to wait and see when Venom 2 arrives on October 2nd, 2020. If we don’t see Tom Holland in that, the next time we’ll surely see him in is Spider-Man 3 on July 16th, 2021. Keep your eyes stuck to Screen Geek to see where Holland will swing to next.
