With all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4 films and Disney+ streaming shows coming to us (eventually), its hard not to be excited as a comic book movie fan. We have so much to look forward to and so many new characters coming into the fold. One would be forgiven, however, if a certain, obscure, Hulu show fell under your radar starring a strange lead choice and an absurd plot. I’m talking about the stop motion animation series M.O.D.O.K., and some brand new stills gives us a first look at this comic book based comedy series.
Thanks to EW Online and the M.O.D.O.K. panel at NYCC, we’ve got our first look at the stop motion series starring Patton Oswald as the voice of dangerous, yet often mocked, Marvel villain, M.O.D.O.K. Standing for ‘Mobile Organism Designed Only for Killing’, M.O.D.O.K. is the insane looking leader of A.I.M. However, the show creators wondered what happens when M.O.D.O.K. goes home. Does he have a family? What does he do in his off time? So, the series will explore the crazy family dynamic, with M.O.D.O.K.’s wife and two kids, living a suburban life when their husband/dad isn’t out trying to take over the world. This is what show runner Jordan Blum had to say about the concept of the show:
“We obviously love the character as this big villain who is always trying to take over the world and run his evil organization [AIM]. His design by Jack Kirby is so absurd and monstrous that we thought, where does this guy go at night? Does he go home to a house and have all these mundane things he has to do? Does he have a family we never knew about? The more we discussed, the more it just kind of made us laugh and then we tried to figure out well, what would that family be? Who would marry M.O.D.O.K and how hard would it be to be his son or to be a daughter in M.O.D.O.K.’s image?”

Joining Oswalt are the voices of Aimee Garcia of Lucifer fame as his wife Jodie, Ben Schwartz (Sonic the Hedgehog) as his son Lou, and Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn 9-9) as his daughter Melissa, who drew the genetic short straw and inherited her father’s looks. All in all, the series looks to be fun and funny and a great relief from the seriousness of life recently. There is no set date yet on its release, but this is definitely something we should all be looking forward to!
