One of the most interesting aspects about Netflix’s series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is just how much it differs from previous television incarnations of the character. After all, past Sabrina shows have normally taken a lighthearted tone, as they were either the popular ’90s sitcom or similarly comedic cartoons. Nevertheless, it looks like Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 4 will be taking some cues from the original ’90s series. In a newly released clip, fans will be able to see the original Sabrina aunts as they were once played by actresses Beth Broderick and Caroline Rhea.
It’s quite the cameo for fans of the two actresses, especially after so much time has passed since they last played aunts Zelda and Hilda on the original Sabrina the Teenage Witch sitcom. In fact, their cameo appearance is even complete with laugh tracks. Netflix gave the following description with the clip they’ve released:
“In this clip, Sabrina Morningstar is surprised by her new aunties look- oddly familiar, but something weird is definitely going on!”
They also explained the differences between all the different actresses:
“Broderick and Rhea originated the onscreen roles of Aunt Zelda & Aunt Hilda in the 1990’s Television Series Sabrina the Teenage Witch. In Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, when not in this alternate universe, Aunt Zelda and Aunt Hilda are played by Miranda Otto and Lucy Davis, respectively.”
It’s a nice tribute for fans of Sabrina the Teenage Witch to see the original aunts come back, and rather fitting considering this will be the last season of the Netflix series.
Part 4 of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will consist of eight episodes, each one hour long. It will star Kiernan Shipka as the titular Sabrina Spellman, alongside cast members Miranda Otto, Lucy Davis, Chance Perdomo, Jaz Sinclair, Lachlan Watson, and Ross Lynch.
The new season will be streaming on Netflix at the end of this year, December 31, 2020.
