Actress Gina Carano played Cara Dune in two seasons of the hit Disney Plus series The Mandalorian, but it seems her time as the character is over. According to a new announcement made by a Lucasfilm spokesperson, Gina Carano has actually been fired from The Mandalorian. And not only will she not be appearing in The Mandalorian ever again, but she isn’t going to be returning in any other Star Wars-related media either. The decision was made after Gina Carano posted a variety of controversial posts on social media, all of which pushed for the #FireGinaCarano movement on Twitter.
Here’s what the official statement from the Lucasfilm spokesperson reads, via THR:
“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” the statement begins. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
What’s more, it has also been revealed that on top of being fired from The Mandalorian – Gina Carano was dropped by her talent agency, UTA. This is all from negative backlash that the actress received following her various controversial social media posts throughout the last few months. While she started out as a positive figure in the modern Star Wars era, it seems as though the controversy was too much for Disney to deal with. With that in mind, it looks like fans can expect The Mandalorian and the rest of the Star Wars franchise to push forward without her or her character Cara Dune.
Gina Carano has starred in a variety of films since her acting debut in Haywire. These appearances include the blockbuster hit Deadpool and the action hit Fast & Furious 6. Meanwhile, The Mandalorian Season 3 is scheduled to premiere in December 2021. Fans can also expect The Book of Boba Fett to be released around the same time.
