One of the many exciting upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe projects is Thor: Love and Thunder. The new MCU film is being tackled by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi and will once again star Chris Hemsworth as the titular Thor. With that in mind, of course, there are a variety of new additions to the film’s cast – and that includes actor Russell Crowe. While it was previously unknown just what character Russell Crowe could be playing, the actor has now confirmed his role for Thor: Love and Thunder. Interestingly, he’ll actually be playing a god in the film – the god Zeus, to be exact.
Specifically, Russell Crowe had this to say while speaking about Thor: Love and Thunder on JOY Breakfast with The Murphys:
“I’m gonna get on my bicycle. I’m gonna ride up to Disney Fox Studios, and around about 9:15 I shall be Zeus!”
He also emphasized that it was his final day of playing the character in the film as well, as you can see via Twitter:
“It’s for Thor. It’s my last day of Zeus-ing about and I’m going to enjoy it.”
The upcoming film Thor: Love and Thunder will definitely be a major step forward for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The new entry in the Thor franchise is set to introduce a variety of both returning and new characters. For example, Natalie Portman will be returning to her role as Jane Foster – but this time we’ll see her finally become the Mighty Thor. And now we know Russell Crowe will be joining the roster as Zeus himself. It’s definitely going to be an exciting time at the cinema.
Taika Waititi is currently directing Thor: Love and Thunder, which stars actor Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster aka the Mighty Thor, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn and Jeff Goldblum. Matt Damon, Sam Neill, Luke Hemsworth, Melissa McCarthy, Ben Falcone, and the aforementioned Russell Crowe are also part of the film’s cast.
The film is currently scheduled for a release date on May 6, 2022.
