It’s always been interesting seeing Spider-Man finally get involved with the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to the partnership between Disney and Sony. Of course, things have still felt a little disconnected on Sony’s side – specifically with Venom and their upcoming films Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius. But as it turns out, there seems to be a bigger plan in the works. In fact, Sony Executive Sanford Panitch has actually hinted that Spider-Man: No Way Home will tie in with their brand of Marvel films.
As revealed via Variety, Panitch teased that there is actually a plan between Sony and Disney that will go into effect with the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Here’s what he specifically stated:
“There actually is a plan. I think now maybe it’s getting a little more clear for people where we’re headed and I think when ‘No Way Home’ comes out, even more will be revealed. The great thing is we have this very excellent relationship with Kevin [Feige]. There’s an incredible sandbox there to play with. We want those MCU movies to be absolutely huge, because that’s great for us and our Marvel characters, and I think that’s the same thing on their side. But we have a great relationship. There’s lots of opportunities, I think, that are going to happen.”
While we don’t know what exactly this plan could be, it does seem to indicate that Sony and Marvel will be truly crossing over in the near future. With reports that Spider-Man: No Way Home will include a variety of characters from past Spider-Man incarnations, this certainly makes sense. Of course, we probably won’t have a complete idea until the release of No Way Home and perhaps some of the other Sony films on the horizon.
As of this writing, the confirmed cast for the major upcoming superhero film includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, and Hannibal Buress.
The film is being directed by Jon Watts from a screenplay written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster Spider-Man: No Way Home is scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2021. Stay tuned for more info on the upcoming film as we have it.
