The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series will fill in a variety of gaps between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. This includes showing the titular Obi-Wan Kenobi as an older man, one that is more clearly going to become the hermit we see in the aforementioned A New Hope. Of course, fans are still hoping we’ll see various other fan-favorite characters along the way. Now, according to a new report, it seems that one of the characters set for a cameo in Obi-Wan Kenobi is none other than Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn.
This information, revealed via Bespin Bulletin, suggests that the character will be making a physical appearance as well. This should be quite the surprise for fans, as Qui-Gon Jinn’s post-The Phantom Menace appearances have generally been used as voice cameos. This means we’ll be getting to see Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn in live-action for the first time since the 1998 Star Wars prequel.
As they’ve stated:
“My personal belief based on a singular source is that the appearance is physical, meaning Qui-Gon Jinn would be seen as a force ghost at some point during the limited series, and not just a disembodied voice us fans previously heard in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.”
Unfortunately, they also noted that there’s no confirmation for what Qui-Gon Jinn’s role in the series could be beyond that. But seeing his character make a physical appearance, as opposed to just a voice cameo, is certainly a huge deal for fans. Especially those who’ve been wanting to see a force ghost version of the character for years. It’ll be interesting to see how Disney decides to use the character and in what ways their cameo will impact the Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series and Obi-Wan’s character going forward. Of course, considering this has yet to be confirmed, fans should also take the information with a grain of salt.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is scheduled for a Disney Plus release date on May 25, 2022.
