Fans of David Lynch will most certainly be familiar with composer Angelo Badalamenti’s musical work. Sadly, it’s been revealed that Angelo Badalamenti has died at age 85.
He famously collaborated with David Lynch numerous times throughout their careers. This includes the 1990 television series Twin Peaks, the 1992 feature film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, and the 2017 revival Twin Peaks: The Return. He also worked with Lynch on other projects such as Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive.
As noted by his niece, Frances Badalamenti via THR, he passed away due to “natural causes.” As stated below:
“Badalamenti died Sunday of natural causes surrounded by family at his home in Lincoln Park, New Jersey.”
Of course, his musical career far outspans just the legacy of the iconic series Twin Peaks. Angelo Badalamenti was also involved with the incredible scores for A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, The City of Lost Children, and Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist just to name a few.
It goes without saying just how incredible and influential his career came to be. In 2008, he was honored for lifetime achievement at the World Soundtrack Awards. Then, three years later, he receives the Henry Mancini Award from ASCAP – presented by none other than David Lynch.
Fans will forever be grateful for Badalamenti’s beautiful music. Without it, there would certainly be no such thing as Twin Peaks. His involvement with the original television series and its various revivals indicate that perfectly. With his ability to compose all of the haunting soundscapes, beautiful melodies, and melancholy tunes that the franchise was known for, there will certainly never be another like him.
Composer Angelo Badalamenti was born in Brooklyn on March 22, 1937. As well as his aforementioned niece, Badalamenti is survived by his wife, Lonny, whom he married in 1968, as well as his daughter, Danielle.
