Many celebrities have shared controversial opinions regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now Seth Rogen has shared his own beliefs about Marvel. And, according to his thoughts, the blockbuster franchise is “geared towards kids.”
Seth Rogen explained as much while speaking with Total Film. It’s worth noting that Seth Rogen is a producer on another very popular superhero property: The Boys. And fans of that show are well-aware that The Boys features much more adult content than Marvel.
Interestingly, Seth Rogen does acknowledge that The Boys wouldn’t exist without Marvel. But he simply can’t get into any MCU films given that he’s “someone who doesn’t have children.” Here’s what he shared:
“I think that Kevin Feige is a brilliant guy, and I think a lot of the filmmakers he’s hired to make these movies are great filmmakers. But as someone who doesn’t have children… It is [all] kind of geared towards kids, you know? There are times where I will forget. I’ll watch one of these things, as an adult with no kids, and be like, ‘Oh, this is just not for me.’”
He then discusses where The Boys fits in.
“I think just as naturally to us as The Boys fell into the comic-book-store landscape as a comic, we thought it would fall well into the media landscape as a TV show. But truthfully, without Marvel, The Boys wouldn’t exist or be interesting. I’m aware of that. I think if it was only Marvel, it would be bad. But I think it isn’t – clearly.”
Of course, many adults – even those without children – are fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s simply a matter of different tastes. And, considering how popular the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to be, it’s unlikely that we’ll see any major differences in opinion.
At the very least, projects like The Boys provide those uninterested in Marvel another form of superhero escapism. One that isn’t exactly “family-friendly” if that happens to be the issue preventing some viewers from enjoying Marvel’s films and television shows.
