A reboot of the Dragonheart movie franchise is reportedly in the works. Furthermore, it’s reported that actor Liam Neeson is involved with the project.
Fans of the original Dragonheart film know that Sean Connery performed the voice of the iconic dragon Draco. For this particular film, however, Neeson would be lending his vocal talents if everything goes well. This report comes via GFR.
Additionally, they add that actor Taron Egerton is also in talks for a part in the film. His role would be the knight that ultimately becomes an ally of the dragon character. So, if Neeson plays the role, it would definitely be a fantastic duo to see come together. Especially within the realm of Dragonheart.
Interestingly, it’s said that Gareth Evans will direct the Dragonheart reboot. Though it seems like it’ll be taking some deviations from the original flick. As stated below:
“From what our sources tell us, the reboot will not necessarily follow the same trajectory as the original. They describe the new film as one in which a young knight (Egerton) shares an unlikely bond with a dragon (Neeson) to confront an ancient evil. This makes it sound decidedly different from 1996’s Dragonheart in which the seasoned dragon-slaying knight Sir Bowen (Dennis Quaid) and the world’s last dragon (Sean Connery) join forces to battle against the tyrant King Einon (David Thewlis).”
Hopefully we’ll have more details on this project soon. After the original film, the series went the direct-to-video route, and many fans would no doubt appreciate a return to form. With names like Gareth Evans, Liam Neeson, and Taron Egerton being thrown into the mix, it seems likely that this could be it.
