Marvel has built a legacy of iconic superheroes and villains in the popular world of comic books. The characters have captivated audiences for many years – with some even becoming the foundation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – MCU. However, it looks like the company is preparing to bid farewell to one of its most beloved characters.
While the mantle of the Marvel character will continue, fans of the original iteration are in for a tragic and intense storyline. Some of the details about the future of the character have been unveiled – and it’s definitely going to have fans talking about where things could go in the future.
The popular character has been part of Marvel Comics for decades and the new Disney Plus series has shared a new light and brought even more fans. New fans have been getting into the comics to catch up with things – which makes the decision in the latest series even more shocking – as it looks like Moon Knight will be killed off altogether.
The choice was made after the events of Moon Knight #29 reveals the real villain of the story was Robert Plesko. This character ultimately shoots Moon Knight, which in Moon Knight #30, reveals that he has died as a result.
Of course, as noted via CBN, this is far from the end of the Moon Knight mantle. Though it’s unknown if this successor is being saved for the upcoming Vengeance of the Moon Knight series, there is indeed a new character teased to take on the mantle. However, it’s quite unexpected for fans of Marc Spector.
“His work is our work now and our work never ends,” Moon Knight’s friends confirm during the issue’s final pages. There’s one friend in particular, however, that appears to be wearing Moon Knight’s suit with the iconic pendant: Reese.
The character is a vampire first introduced in 2021’s Moon Knight (Vol. 9) #1. She began as a receptionist helping in the effort for Moon Knight’s congregation, the Midnight Mission. Now that Moon Knight has been killed off, it looks like the Midnight Mission will continue his work, with some speculating that Reese in particular taking the lead. However, that speculation was soon put to rest:
Hihi, I’m Just here to say, that you shouldn’t be spreading misinformation.
First of all yes Moon Knight is being killed off, but he isn’t being replaced by Reese. She’s just running the Midnight mission to keep his influence alive.
Second of all there’s going to be a new

And lastly if you’re mad about diversity in a moon Knight comic, read about a different character. Moon Knight has been Jewish since his original run and he’s had a gay best friend since his first appearance. Not to mention Gena, a black woman and friend of moon Knight’s

It’s worth adding that Reese is also a black lesbian, which makes for a major first regarding Moon Knight lore. Hopefully we’ll have more details regarding her character and what role she could play in the future of Moon Knight soon.
