Marvel Studios is preparing a massive comeback with the X-Men brand. One of the first projects as part of this comeback includes an upcoming Disney Plus series. Now Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige hasĀ  revealed an exciting update regarding the new Disney Plus X-Men project.

Feige spoke with Entertainment Tonight when he began discussing Marvel‘s plans for X-Men. This, of course, includes the upcoming animated series X-Men ’97. The new show is set to follow the events of the fan-favorite X-Men: The Animated Series show from the 1990’s. According to Feige, we can expect it to finally hit next year in 2024.

Here’s what Feige shared about the project:

“It’s super exciting. But the X-Men are as solid and rich and great concept of characters that exist. The return of the animated series next year which we’re very excited about. I saw some new final episodes today which really bring you back to that core of who the X-Men are – that soap opera of who those characters represent.”

A new report from THR has since confirmed the early 2024 release date – and the series is being described as retro and a love letter to the original.

Of course, this is far from the only X-Men project in the works. In fact, we’ve been seeing additional glimpses at the X-Men making a return in live-action in such works as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Marvels. Now, according to Feige, this is only the beginning.

“And, then in live-action people will see, perhaps, soon,” Feige teases.

Of course, we are set to get one other X-Men-centric project next year in 2024 that will be live-action. In addition to X-Men ’97, fans will be able to see Deadpool 3, a sequel to Fox’s two Deadpool movies that begins to take things into the MCU continuity. Ryan Reynolds will return as Deadpool while Hugh Jackman will once again portray Wolverine.

Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the Disney Plus series X-Men ’97 as we have them. For now, it looks like everything is on track and we can expect more news as we approach its 2024 release date.
