Marvel Fans Complain ‘Thunderbolts’ Title Change Is A “Spoiler”

Marvel fans have been making complaints that the title change for the MCU film Thunderbolts is a "spoiler" for audiences.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe just got even bigger with the theatrical release of Thunderbolts. The newest MCU film brings together several important characters to create the titular superhero team. Of course, the title was marketed before the film’s release with an asterisk, signaling an important change for when the film would be released. Now Marvel fans are complaining that the resulting Thunderbolts title change is a “spoiler.”

Fans have been debating the meaning of the asterisk for quite some time now. As such, they were delighted to understand what it actually meant by the time the film came to a close. Marvel Studios also seemed happy to reveal the meaning themselves, perhaps a little too excited, as some fans feel as though their announcements have been premature.

After all, the film only hit theaters earlier this month. At a time when social media conquers all, however, it looks like studios or fans are being as considerate about spoilers these days. Now a social media debacle has erupted which has some fans calling the film’s title reveal a spoiler, with others citing it as no big deal.

As you can see in some of the social media responses shared below after Marvel Studios revealed the official title which happens to be The New Avengers:

i’m actually still mad asfk about the thunderbolts title spoiler like bruh

i don’t think changing the title from thunderbolts to avengers is really a spoiler. it’s hardly a spoiler at all

Revealing the actual title of Thunderbolts* as The New Avengers does absolutely nothing to the plot of the film and it’s not really a spoiler. Just go watch the movie. It’s a lot of fun!

I kinda was disappointed by seeing that cuz i wanted to find out the title myself when i watched it since i was trying to watch the rest of the MCU then get to thunderbolts
Prolly wouldve seen a spoiler eventually anyway but it was worth a shot

Glad I seen Thunderbolts when I did. They’re already gettin’ spoiler heavy about that asterisk in the title. It could’ve used more character development outside of the few they focused on, but it was still a fun time. #Thunderbolts

It’s certainly a worthwhile argument, though looking at this issue altogether, the film is still finding success in theaters whether it’s been spoiled or not. The debate should certainly be food for thought – but in the meantime, it doesn’t look like this particular spoiler is actually hindering the marketing for Thunderbolts in any way.

Thunderbolts, otherwise known as The New Avengers, is currently playing in theaters. The titular superhero team is next slated to appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Marvel Cinematic Universe news as we have it.
