There are now dozens of movies that comprise the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The number only continues to grow as the franchise expands its “Multiverse,” tying back with previous continuities like Fox’s X-Men film franchise or Sony’s Spider-Man films. Now one of the worst Marvel movies has managed to dominate Disney Plus – with a very good reason to suddenly do so well on the streaming platform.
It’s worth noting that this particular Marvel movie does have its fans, especially as it was one of the first major adaptations to precede the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it today. While it has since been made part of the franchise through the use of the Multiverse, it’s still not part of the MCU proper, but that hasn’t stopped fans from revisiting this particular title.
It’s currently standing at the number 10 spot globally for Disney Plus, an impressive feat when considering how many other MCU titles there are to choose from. In fact, the only other MCU movie that’s currently on the list is Captain America: Brave New World, which is a lot newer than this entry.
This #10 title is none other than 2005’s Fantastic Four, which has since become part of the MCU with Chris Evans’ reprisal of Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine. Obviously, however, the MCU’s new Fantastic Four effort The Fantastic Four: First Step offers a more comic-accurate and appealing take on the characters. Either way, its popularity has circled back to the 2005 adaptation and thus gave it a chance to reach new audiences on streaming.
At the time of this writing, the 2005 venture only has a 28% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 5.7/10 on IMDb. This makes it one of the lowest-rated Marvel adaptations. Despite this low reception, however, the film certainly has its fans – even with better options now available.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the latest trending titles on streaming platforms including Disney Plus as we have them. For now, fans can revisit the 2005 Fantastic Four movie for themselves on Disney Plus – or check out the newest iteration The Fantastic Four: First Steps which is now playing in theaters.
