A X-Men reboot is one of the next projects slated for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The long-running film franchise recently acquired rights to the iconic characters, and we’ve finally seen some of Fox’s X-Men heroes appear in the MCU, the new reboot will be a “recognizably different” take on the characters.

Jake Schreier was recently confirmed to be the new director of the X-Men reboot. With the success of Thunderbolts under his belt, fans are eager to see how he’ll apply his experience to a much different branch of Marvel characters. Now, while speaking with The Playlist, he offered his take on the matter.

Here’s what he shared after mentioning his intentions to create a “recognizably different” X-Men movie:

“Yeah, I think that’s fair to say,” he said. “There’s that red sniper dot out there somewhere, you know… But to be able to explore all of the ideas that are inherent to that rich source material, but also at the scale inherent to the source material, that’s like a very rare and fortunate opportunity. That’s very exciting.“

    He added:

“What I can say is, it’s just inherently interesting and complex material… The core idea of what ‘X-Men’ is involves complexity. It’s an incredible opportunity with super interesting characters and [much] internal conflict. These characters are wrestling with their identity and place in the world—that’s inherently interesting and complex material.“

It’s an exciting start to the X-Men reboot and what the Marvel Cinematic Universe has in store for the superhero team. While fans will have to accept a new version of the iconic superhero team, it will be bittersweet to finally have more comic-accurate depictions on the big screen.

In the meantime, fans will see some of Fox’s previous X-Men characters appear in Avengers: Doomsday. The Avengers sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the MCU franchise including Avengers: Doomsday and the X-Men reboot as we have them.
