It’s been confirmed in a devastating announcement that actor James Ransone, whose acting credits include films like IT: Chapter Two and The Black Phone, has died at age 46. It’s been confirmed that Ransone committed suicide in Los Angeles.
This is a sad day for fans of Ransone, in addition to his friends and family. As confirmed via Deadline he was found dead on Friday. Here’s what the outlet shared:
“The Film Independent Spirit Award winner was found dead by hanging on Friday in Los Angeles, having apparently died by suicide, according to the country medical examiner’s report.”
It’s possible that more details will be shared, but for those familiar with Ransone, it’s worth noting that the actor had a troubled past including his accusations of having been sexually assaulted by his former math tutor in 1992. Additionally, Ransone faced issues with financial debt tied to a former heroine addiction.
In spite of his troubles, however, Ransone was always a fantastic performer and gave fans so many enjoyable roles over the years in both film and television. In addition to the roles mentioned above, Ransone also appeared in The Wire, Generation Kill, Tangerine, and Sinister. Of course, it’s his role as Eddie Kaspbrak that might be one of his most memorable, having played the older version of the character alongside Jack Dylan Grazer as the younger Eddie.
Fans of various genres, properties, and both film and television will no doubt be devastated by this news. Nevertheless, we can at least appreciate the legacy that he’s left behind. Ransone is survived by his wife Jamie McPhee and their son.
