Netflix Cancels Series After Ordering Second Season

It looks like Netflix has made the decision to cancel a series - despite ordering a second season of the show.

Over the past few months, Netflix has been cutting down its slate in a big way – scrapping projects at every stage, from early concepts to shows that had already found some footing. It’s a clear sign of how competitive the streaming space has gotten, with platforms constantly reshuffling content to stay ahead of rivals.

At the same time, Netflix is still pumping out hundreds of titles a year, which means not everything gets a fair shot. Some shows flop, others just get buried under the constant wave of new releases. If something doesn’t grab attention quickly, it usually doesn’t last long.

The show premiered in 2023, and while it didn’t take off globally, it wasn’t a total miss either. The series performed well in its home region, spending seven weeks in Netflix’s Top 10 in India, along with five weeks in both Bangladesh and Pakistan. Interestingly, the show actually looked like it would continue at first. Netflix reportedly moved forward with a second season not long after the debut, signaling early confidence in the series. But somewhere along the line, those plans quietly fell apart.

One of the more under-the-radar cancellations is Class, a Hindi adaptation of the hit Spanish series Elite. The show followed three working-class students who enroll in an elite private school, where their arrival shakes up the lives of the ultra-wealthy students already there.

Actor Gurfateh Pirzada later revealed that the project had been scrapped, sharing that he learned about the cancellation toward the end of 2024. In reflecting on the news, he suggested the decision came as a tough blow, especially given the show’s initial momentum and the expectation that it would return.

In the end, despite early plans for more, Class joins the growing list of Netflix titles that started strong but couldn’t make it past season one.
