If you’ve seen Avengers: Infinity War, you’ll know a lot of characters died in the Decimation brought about by Thanos and his Infinity Gauntlet. A new theory suggests another character’s death went totally unnoticed: One Redditor argues that the infamous snap killed The Incredible Hulk!
The theory revolves around a brief moment where Bruce Banner can be seen with his head slumped, immediately after the sequence showing the characters’ deaths. Arguing that this is evidence the Hulk was killed, the theory also states that the Hulk was unwilling to appear throughout the film because he believed hiding would protect him.
The theory can be read below, and the video is underneath it:
There are several problems with this theory. Firstly, it seems most likely that Banner is hanging his head in sadness, defeat or even shame. This isn’t compelling evidence of the Hulk’s death; Banner has just watched his teammates and allies turn to ash, after all.
The Hulk also appears in concept art and leaked images of toys. Unless these are all from after the expected resurrection of the fallen fifty percent of the universe, it seems certain that the Hulk survived and we’ll be seeing him again.
The Hulk’s absence in Avengers: Infinity War can be explained as a result of the colossal beating he took from Thanos at the film’s opening. He may be hiding away to protect himself, but not from the snap – he’s simply reluctant to face Thanos (or his children) in another fight that he’s certain to lose. It’s also hard to explain how the Hulk even knew the Decimation would be coming.
We’ll have to wait till April 26th when Avengers: Endgame is here – to find out for sure if the Hulk survived, but for now it seems pretty likely.
