Avengers: Endgame, the highest grossing movie of all time, is also seemingly the gift that keeps on giving. Ever since it’s home release, fans have scoured the footage for any and all Easter Eggs, as well as the deleted scenes, bloopers, and more. Hundreds of more fan theories have been developed and plastered all over the internet. And, concept art showing what might have been has been popping up all over. The latest one to pop up is for one of the film’s surprise characters, Professor Hulk. The amalgamation of Bruce Banner’s brains and the Green Goliath’s strength, Smart Hulk offered a whole new aspect to the Dr Jekyll/Mr. Hyde metaphor, and fan favorite character.
Thanks to concept artist, Jarad S. Marantz, sharing his work on his Instagram, we get a look of an earlier concept for the latest version of the Hulk.
Early design for #smarthulk for #avengersendgame. Again, so honored to be able to take a pass on this iconic character. This was about as far as I got with him. The final version was designed by @ryan_meinerding_art.
Here’s an early pass on the Hulk I did for Avengers Endgame. I was so honored to get the chance to do a pass on this character. It was a real challenge to integrate a bit more of Mark Ruffalo in there and show that Banner was now in control. The insanely talented @ryan_meinerding_art did the final design. Also there was some great work done by @ryanlangdraws and @wes_burt
This version does seemingly give us more Ruffalo in the face, but is still pretty close to what was finally up on the big screen. It seems that Marvel had a clear thought in mind, and just had to do some tweaks here and there. All in all, we got another amazing chapter in Hulk’s storyline. Hopefully, there is more to come.
