During the COVID-19 pandemic, news of upcoming films has been all but non-existent. Every film shoot is shut down, release dates have been pushed back, and the entertainment industry as a whole is in a state of flux. So, to help fans get some kind of entertainment during these arduous quarantine times, many creators are doing Quarantine Watch Parties along with fans to the biggest films. One such film done was Avengers: Endgame, the highest grossing movie of all time. The Russo Brothers answered questions and gave insight on the film’s secrets during a group viewing party. One such secret that came out is one that nearly all of us already assumed, but now we have a true confirmation. And that secret has to do with everyone’s favorite Green Goliath, Hulk.
During the Viewing Party, the Russos were asked if the original Hulk personality still lives inside the new ‘Smart Hulk’ version, to which the Russos gave a clear answer:
Fans shouldn’t really be shocked by this ‘revelation’, as Banner pretty much spelled this out in the diner scene that introduced us to ‘Smart Hulk’. But, some people were hoping that we could get the original Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde-esque dynamic once again down the line. Seems that it’s not going to happen.
As it stands, it doesn’t look like we will ever get another solo Hulk film, but there are several possibilities for Banner to show up in future Marvel Cinematic Universe titles. Most notably, it has been rumored that Mark Ruffalo will return to the character for the She-Hulk Disney+ series. Considering that Banner and the Hulk are the key component to Jennifer Walters’ origin story, Smart Hulk can also still help the new iteration of heroes with his mind and strength, so we could see him in another Avengers film (although his arm damage from the gauntlet is supposedly permanent). Regardless of what happens, it looks like Smart Hulk is here to stay.
