One of the more interesting cinematic treats coming this October is The Witches, a remake of the 1990 cult classic based on Roald Dahl’s story of the same name. The trailer was recently released along with an announcement that The Witches would be headed straight to HBO Max. On top of this exciting news, actress Anne Hathaway – who plays the Grand High Witch in the film – has revealed a special new video. In it, fans can see a glimpse of the hideous transformation Anne Hathaway will go through as the Grand High Witch in The Witches – as well as some special tips for spotting witches according to the rules of the film.
It’s an interesting video, and one that shows Anne Hathaway will have quite the grotesque revelation in The Witches as the Grand High Witch. Of course, it’ll be interesting to see how it compares to Anjelica Huston’s own disturbing transformation from the original 1990 adaptation.
In the new take on The Witches…
“From the mind of Roald Dahl and as reimagined by acclaimed filmmaker Robert Zemeckis, The Witches is a wickedly fun adventure as a young boy stumbles onto a secret coven of child-hating witches as they plot to turn the world’s children into mice. A fresh Halloween classic for this generation, in a story that celebrates courage, teamwork, and unlikely heroes, offering a completely distinct kids proposition with a quirky, delightfully twisted tone in classic Dahl style.”
The film stars Anne Hathaway and Octavia Spencer, Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci, with Kristin Chenoweth and Chris Rock. The film also includes newcomer Jahzir Kadeem Bruno, alongside Codie-Lei Eastick.
Robert Zemeckis directed The Witches from a script he wrote with Kenya Barris and Guillermo del Toro, based on the story of the same name by Roald Dahl. Robert Zemeckis is also producing the film, alongside Jack Rapke, del Toro, Alfonso Cuarón and Luke Kelly. Jacqueline Levine, Marianne Jenkins, Michael Siegel, Gideon Simeloff and Cate Adams are attached as executive producers.
Those excited to see The Witches will be able to watch the film via streaming on HBO Max later this month, on October 22, 2020.
