It appears that the 21-year-old nephew of Ricky Martin has accused him of domestic violence. While the nephew was previously anonymous, it appears that his identity was revealed by Ricky Martin’s brother Eric Martin. Now that it’s been revealed it’s his nephew, Dennis Yadiel Sanchez, that’s accusing him of these crimes – the punishment could be even more severe.
As noted via Spanish news website Marca, Ricky Martin allegedly “exercised physical and psychological attacks” on Dennis Yadiel Sanchez during “the relationship they had for seven months.” And, due to Puerto Rico’s laws regarding incest, this means Martin could be facing 50 years in prison as a result.
The trial between Martin and his nephew is set to occur on July 21. It’s been stated by those handling Martin’s defense claim “the nephew has recently been denounced by a woman who denounced him for harassment after he threatened to destroy her life.”
In regards to the trial, the following statement was released by Ricky Martin’s Twitter page:
“We are confident that when the true facts come to light in this matter, our client Ricky Martin will be fully vindicated,” the singer’s law firm says in a statement.
They further insisted that the claims being made against Martin are “completely false.” Nevertheless, this won’t be entirely decided until the trial comes to a close. As for the allegations, Martin’s lawyer Marty Singer gave Deadline the following statement:
“Unfortunately, the person who made this claim is struggling with deep mental health challenges,” Singer explained. “Ricky Martin has, of course, never been — and would never be– involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew. The idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting.”
Furthermore, Singer insists that he hopes Martin’s nephew receives “the help he so urgently needs.”
“We all hope that this man gets the help he so urgently needs,” Singer said. “But, most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts.”
Ricky Martin’s legal team certainly seem confident in their evidence regarding the case. As such, we’ll hopefully find out the truth in this matter sooner or later. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for updates as we have them.
