With December on the way, it’s time to start getting excited for all the Christmas-related fare that’ll be coming with the winter months. For example, Stranger Things star David Harbour will be playing a badass version of Santa Claus in the upcoming film Violent Night. And, as you would assume from the title, it really is as violent as you’d expect. As you can see in the below Violent Night trailer, David Harbour’s Santa Claus is attempting to rescue a family that’s been taken hostage.

The plot of the film immediately brings to mind the likes of Die Hard, something which David Harbour previously compared the film to himself. With John Leguizamo also playing the film’s villain in this action-comedy, it’s hard not to be excited. And with the release date not too far away – audiences won’t have long to wait if they plan on seeing Violent Night this December.

Here’s the official trailer for Violent Night:

In the tradition of such modern hits as the John Wick action film series, it’s easy to see what kind of direction they were aiming for with Violent Night. It goes to show that there’s still plenty of potential for original IPs in theaters and this looks like it’ll be a fun way to spend the holiday season.

The upcoming film was directed by Tommy Wirkola from a screenplay penned by Pat Casey & Josh Miller. The film was produced by 87North’s Kelly McCormick, David Leitch, and Guy Danella. The film was executive produced by Marc S. Fischer.

In addition to David Harbour and John Leguizamo, the cast for the film also includes Beverly D’Angelo, Alex Hassell, Alexis Louder, Edi Patterson, Cam Gigandet, and AndrĂ© Eriksen.

Audiences will be able to see Violent Night later this year only in theaters on December 2, 2022. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any updates on this highly-anticipated film as we have them.
