With the success of 2022’s Scream, 2023’s Scream VI, and the hype for 2026’s Scream 7, the Scary Movie franchise is hoping to follow suit. The sixth installment in the Scary Movie series, the first of which parodied the original Scream, is now in the midst of production and several cast members have been announced. Excitingly enough, the cast of Scary Movie 6 includes the return of several franchise veterans!
It’s currently unknown what exactly the story for Scary Movie 6 will be. Many fans have suspected that it will become a parody of legacy sequels, however, poking fun at the likes of the recent Scream films for bringing back previous characters and storylines. As such, it’s fitting that several familiar cast members are returning, though it’s unknown if they’ll be playing their original roles or new characters.
Here’s what was shared via Deadline:
“Scary Movie 6 has added Damon Wayans Jr. (New Girl), Kim Wayans (In Living Color), and Heidi Gardner to its cast, setting two franchise vets to return: Gardner’s fellow SNL alum Cheri Oteri and Chris Elliott.”
The outlet reminds that Oteri previously played Gail Halstorm in the original Scary Movie, while Elliott played separate characters in the franchise as Hanson in Scary Movie 2 and later Ezekiel in Scary Movie 4. As such, these actors really could be playing just about anyone if it isn’t their original characters.
Other returning cast members for the highly-anticipated sequel include Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Regina Hall, Anna Faris, Lochlyn Monroe, Dave Sheridan, and Jon Abrahams. Of course, actors in front of the camera aren’t the only one returning for the sequel.
Scary Movie 6 features returning writers Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenan Ivory Wayans who wrote the screenplay alongside their collaborator Rick Alvarez. Additionally, Alvarez is producing the sequel, while Michael Tiddes is directing.
In addition to the aforementioned cast members returning, there are plenty of newcomers, with the new cast members including Olivia Rose Keegan, Savannah Lee Nassif, Cameron Scott Roberts, Sydney Park, Gregg Wayans, Ruby Snowber, and Benny Zielke.
The sixth film in the Scary Movie franchise is scheduled to hit theaters from Paramount on June 12, 2026. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the highly-anticipated sequel as we have them.
