I'm a guy who watches too many movies.

Oof! This weekend was a rough one at the box office, folks. Film after film continued to underperform and it looks like Hollywood is in for a long summer. Let’s inspect the damage shall we? Our first victim is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows which opened to a very weak $35.2 million. That’s a staggering $30 million below its predecessor’s $65.5 million opening in August of 2014. I’m not entirely sure what went wrong here since everything seemed to be lining up for it to be a sure-fire hit. My best guess would be that a significant amount of those who saw…

Memorial Day weekend marks the eighth time that a comic book more has topped the box office this year as X-men: Apocalypse took the #1 slot with an estimated $65 million for a per screen average of $15.6k. Meanwhile in second place, Alice Through the Looking Glass was a rare Disney misfire with a dreadful $28 million. I won’t call Apocalypse’s start poor as the X-men are still pulling in solid crowds. Still, the fact that this eighth installment in the series opened to less than half of the much more conservatively budgeted Deadpool’s $132 million opening and only 39% of the universally maligned Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opening make…

Have you ever been enjoying a movie until the filmmakers decided to throw in a random, lazy, or just plain stupid ending that made you want to scream “YOU BLEW IT!” at the screen? Well, I have. This is my list of otherwise solid films that were brought down by some seriously bad endings. 10. Source Code Hold up, fangirls, save your comments. I like this movie. For the first 85 minutes, you could even say that I loved it. It’s just that this movie would have ended on an absolutely perfect note if it had wrapped up five minutes…

Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel’s next appearance may be in court. According to an article from the celebrity news source The Wrap, producer George Zakk claims that Diesel owes him up to $275,ooo for making a sequel to the (ungoogleable) XXX franchise that he helped start (why, yes there is a new XXX movie on the way for some reason). As of now, Diesel has not commented on the allegations. The new XXX movie will be out on January 20th. Source: The Wrap So what do you think about all of this? Does this change your opinion of Vin Diesel?…

If you’re looking for yet another way to let your poor mom down, take her to see the new assembly line ensemble flick Mother’s Day this Mother’s Day. You’d likely be better off renting that torture movie from 1980 of the same name. If your mom is like mine, she’ll likely be thoroughly disgusted with you, but at least you provided her with an experience that she’ll remember the next day which is more than you’d be able to say about 2016 Mother’s Day. What am I talking about? Just send her flowers. Flowers work just fine. The film follows…

Ever come across a piece of news that made you want to throw your laptop against the wall? Well, that happened to me today when I took a look at a Variety article in which AMC Entertainment CEO Adam Aron mulled the possibility of allowing theater patrons to use their cellphones during movie screenings. Aron stated that allowing texting is part of his plan to attract more millennials to AMC theaters stating: “When you tell a 22-year-old to turn off the phone, don’t ruin the movie, they hear please cut off your left arm above the elbow. You can’t tell…

Author’s note: I believe 10 Cloverfield Lane is best experienced going in blind. Do so if possible and come back and read this review. After the typically barren movie months of January and February, I desperately craved a film that would remind me why I go to the movies. I am pleased to say that a film has arrived to reinvigorate my love for the great big American blockbuster. One that kept my heart pounding and my eyes wide with wonder. One that has filled me with more hope for the upcoming summer movie season than is probably wise. Ladies…

(We originally did this list when Poltergeist came out earlier this year.) Poltergeist is out this weekend and I couldn’t be any less interested! As far as I’m concerned, if a horror remake isn’t directed by John Carpenter and doesn’t star Jeff Goldblum as a man who turns into a fly or a pod person, it’s a waste of time. So in honor of Poltergeist becoming the latest entry in the pathetic horror remake sub-genre, I’ve compiled for you a list of what I think are the very worst of the worst! Horror remakes that are so bad that their…

Some obscure little indie film no one has heard of shattered a lot of box office records this weekend. Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened to a record $238 million breaking the previous record set by Jurassic World all the way back in –well… June. Many experts are predicting this one will pass Avatar’s final gross of $760 million. With no significant competition coming for Star Wars in the typically week months of January and February, I see no reason to think otherwise. After only three days, this is already the 107th highest grossing film of all time. One slot…

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay- Part 2 (I die a little inside whenever I have to put both a colon and dash in movie title) took first place for third weekend in a row on the first weekend of December. The concluding chapter of the wildly popular Hunger Games series took in $18.6 million for a total gross of $227 million in seventeen days. While this is a great number, it does seem to be running out of steam faster that Lionsgate would like (the fact that it dropped over 64% in grosses from last weekend is little disheartening). At this…
