Last month, a rumor surfaced that the upcoming Venom movie starring Tom Hardy wouldn’t feature much Venom at all. It wasn’t all that surprising of a rumor, given the lack of the title character in the film’s first trailer. Hardy himself quickly debunked that rumor, and now, we may actually have our first look at the character – thanks to a possible leak on Tumblr. While we don’t know if it’s official or not, the eyes featured in the design are similar to the eyes in the at the end of the trailer we saw.
If this is the case, it’s definitely a cool look for the character, and one that fans won’t be disappointed in seeing. As the character’s creator, Todd McFarlane, put it – he needs to be a monster:
“We all know Tom’s going to act. He’s going to do a good job. So now what’s Venom gonna’ look like? It’s an R-rated movie, how “R” are they going to go? To me, that’s the question. Are they going to go a “little bit R”? Venom’s a monster to me, and to me – are they going to make him a monster or are they going to make him a man? Are they going to humanize him? That’s what we gotta’ find out.”
And find out we will, when the movie hits theaters on October 5th. It’s an important film for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, so here’s hoping that everything works out, and we can get a solid Venom movie out of it. Tom Hardy is said to be a huge fan of the character, so we have high hopes for it – given his filmography.
What do you think of the potential design for Venom? Are you excited for the movie? Be sure to tell us your thoughts in the comments!
