Ruby Rose Has Officially Been Cast As Lesbian Superhero Batwoman

    Ruby Rose Batwoman

Fans have been waiting patiently to find out who would be cast as Batwoman ever since The CW confirmed that the character would be joining the Arrowverse. We will first see the character in the annual DC Arrowverse crossover before Batwoman moves on to a solo series. It has now been announced that Orange is the New Black and The Meg actress, Ruby Rose, will play Kate Kane.

Deadline have reported the casting of the role. As The CW expressed that they wanted an LGBT actress to play Batwoman, who will be openly gay in the series, Ruby Rose is the perfect choice and a favorite of fans. Caroline Dries, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Geoff Johns will executive produce the Batwoman series.

The Bat is out of the bag and I am beyond thrilled and honored. I’m also an emotional wreck.. because this is a childhood dream. This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different. Thank you everyone. Thank you god.

Although it is still waiting for the green light, The CW’s Batwoman has been written by Caroline Dries. In the story:

“Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet.

In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

Ruby Rose will make her first appearance as Batwoman in December for the crossover event, but allegedly The CW are not using it as a backdoor pilot for the Batwoman solo series and it will get it’s own full length pilot episode.

Do you think Ruby Rose will make a good Batwoman? Let us know in the comments!
