‘Avengers: Endgame’ BTS Video Reveals How Cap Vs. Cap Fight Was Filmed

Captain America, The First Avenger of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has had plenty of memorable moments over the near decade of films during his time. From the time that Steve Rogers took the Super Soldier Serum and became the hero he was always meant to be, Cap has had some of the best moments in all of the MCU. His transformation, the epic elevator fight scene, the airport fight, lifting Mjolnir. All these scenes, and so many more, helped establish Captain America as the perennial Avenger. Now, a new BTS look at a particular memorable moment in Avengers: Endgame has surfaced.

Another one of Captain America’s great moments (not to mention the birth of the infamous ‘America’s Ass’ line) has to be the Cap vs. Cap fight scene in Endgame. During the Time Heist, Cap, Ant-Man and Iron Man went back to the Battle of New York in 2012. After the attempt to get the Tesseract doesn’t go as planned, and Loki of 2012 escapes with it, modern day Cap (with Loki’s sceptor containing the Mind Stone) runs into Cap of 2012. Mistaking the future Cap as Loki in disguise, a battle ensues. And now, we get a BTS look at how the Russos shot this sequence with Chris Evans fighting, well, Chris Evans.

And always a pleasure being on set and on screen with my brother. Cause it was so fun the first time…. #Repost @danielhargrave ・・・ Here is another angle of the stair gag…3,2,1 …shoulder through earhole! Fun fact, @thesamhargrave had to duct tape his knees straight for this gag so his legs wouldn’t fall off from old injuries. #ducttapefixeseverything #itsgonnabegreat #stunts #mcu #marvel #captainamerica #stunts #brothers

This moment gave us a real ‘full circle’ feeling for Captain America. First, you get a nice swear from Cap, showcasing his growth (in a way). Then, when 2012 Cap mentions his famous “I can do this all day” line, Modern Cap shrugs it off. He also knows how to push his own buttons, bringing up Bucky’s survival to throw off 2012 Cap. And, after taking himself out, Modern Cap recognizes ‘America’s Ass’. Psychologically, it was Cap defeating his ego, understanding he was near the end of the road, and ready to either die to save everyone, or retire when the job was done. Being ‘fed up’ with ‘doing this all day’, so to speak.

All in all, this scene was a great moment for fans, and the BTS of how it was made is equally as interesting.
