My read on the ‘Dredd’ sequel as it stands is this, and feel free to jump in and correct me at any point. Despite a monumental outpouring of love from the fans, the chances of a film are currently nil because it didn’t make enough money at the box office. One shining ray of light on the horizon for Dredd fans has been the ongoing success of the Marvel and Netflix collaboration, which has given a great deal of hope that a Dredd TV pilot or series might become a possibility – and rightly so. With over 30 years of…

Whilst the future continues to look bright for the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (well, apart from for Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s ‘Quicksilver’…), one anti-hero that doesn’t seem to feature anywhere in Marvel’s plans is Johnny Blaze, AKA The Ghost Rider. Having been the subject matter of arguably the worst Marvel-related sequel that the studio has put its name to, and consider they had a hand in Punisher: War Zone, Marvel Supremo Kevin Feige recently confirmed that despite the very vocal desire of Nicolas Cage for further sequels, the studio had shelved the character indefinitely. Now, I don’t believe it’s right…
Remakes and reboots. Love ’em or hate ’em, Hollywood’s infatuation with them just doesn’t seem to want to end. It feels like nothing is either sacred or safe anymore, and in the Wikipedia page of every old film or TV show, there’s a little ‘reboot’ entry on the sidebar, festering away down at the bottom. Even though the fact that the results are more often than not unsatisfying doesn’t seem to put producers off, and although a number of projects have recently been put on hold, or are lumbering through ‘development hell’, the reboot list just seems to keep on…
There’s no getting away from it, 2011’s Green Lantern was a train-wreck. It’s hard to quantify exactly where it went wrong, because there’s just so many weaknesses. The CGI suit. The large ball of grey snot that comprised the bad guy. Peter Sarsgard’s big swollen head. None of it worked. At all… But, Green Lantern Corps just might. The fact that Green Lantern isn’t included in the line-up for the forthcoming ‘Justice League’ movies is perhaps a yardstick for how much damage the film did to the marketability of the character. The only soft spot I have for it was…
It’s been a long time coming, but it’s finally here. We’ve had cleverly deceptive fan-trailers, purporting to be the real thing. We’ve had the grainiest of leaked convention footage, which was less than awe-inspiring. But at long, long last, the official trailer for Captain America 3: Civil War has landed. And it’s pretty damn good… So what does it show us about the film? 5. It’s Gritty Well, if anything, it shows that the Russo brothers have picked up exactly where they left off with ‘The Winter Soldier’. If Marvel were concerned that audience feedback was somewhat cold in the aftermath…
2016 is an exciting time. It heralds the long awaited arrival of DC’s newly invigorated Cinematic Universe and excitement around the project is building feverishly. Whilst It’s fair to say that ‘Man Of Steel’ had its critics and perhaps hasn’t stood up as well to repeated viewings as some of its Marvel counterparts, it was certainly a strong enough offering to secure Zack Snyder the centerpiece of the forthcoming Justice League series. With both Batman and Superman finally sharing screen-time in ‘Dawn Of Justice’, that film’s box office success and subsequent sequel projects are pretty much guaranteed. That aside, however,…
A number of sources this evening are reporting that talented fight performer Scott Adkins has signed on to play an as-yet unspecified role in the upcoming ‘Doctor Strange’ movie. The Birmingham-born actor has been linked to a number of superhero roles in the past, having screen tested for Batman at the same as fellow Brit actor Christian Bale, and with roles in the Bourne Series, Zero Dark Thirty and Expendables 2 under his belt, he’s no stranger to a high profile project Adkins is a renowned martial-artist, and I’d direct you to the Universal Soldier sequel ‘Day of Reckoning’, in…
Here’s some more ‘Dredd’ casting suggestions: Greetings, Citizens. Cast your minds back a couple of months, and you may remember we published an article giving some suggestions about casting choices for future Judge Dredd films/TV projects. You can revisit the article using this link. At the time we asked you for feedback or your contributions, and having just been brave enough to re-connect our inbox back up to the Internet, we thought we’d publish another little article featuring your best suggestions. So here they are: 7. Judge Death – Doug Jones We start off with a correction to our previous…
Anybody who watched the first series of ‘Daredevil’, when it debuted back in April, couldn’t have failed to have been struck by the shift in tone that this new Netflix production format bought with it to the table. In comparison to Marvel’s previous cinematic and televisual output this was something refreshingly tense, adrenaline-fueled, making for exceptionally compelling viewing. For one thing, the painstakingly choreographed fight scenes resulted in physical and mental damage to the characters that real-life human beings might actually be expected to sustain from what was taking place. Cuts bled. Bones crunched. People died. They stayed dead. Their…
Television is rapidly becoming the new film. The availability of subscription services and the variety of home media platforms available mean that traditional methods of making and viewing prime-time television are fast becoming a dying art. Production companies now put as much time, effort and research into trying to find the new Walking Dead or Game of Thrones as that used in the production of the average a summer blockbuster. A significant share of this advancing wave of big budget television production is the comic-book adaptation. DC have carefully carved out their corner of the marketplace, whilst Marvel are recovering…
