Growing up a film and television fan in the wonderful state of Massachusetts, he grew a strong attachment to personal dramas. Teaming up his fandom for the world of entertainment along with his love of writing was just an all too natural fit for Matt. He can be often found at the local cineplex, eating at the local restaurants or playing basketball at any basketball court across Mass.

It’s rare that a movie becomes iconized as a potential “so bad its good” classic right when it’s release, but Cats was able to pull off that feat. Even with dreadful reviews (20 rating on Rotten Tomatoes) and an abysmal box office performance (earned a mere 27 million domestically on a 90 million dollar budget), the film drew significant attention due to its bizarre CGI and tonally-confused setup. Stars like Seth Rogen are live-Tweeting their (baked) experience watching the film, with the project becoming a long-standing pop culture story despite its failures. Now, fans are demanding to see an apparent cut…

The Coronavirus continues to have a negative impact on everyone in the country, as even giant corporations like Disney continue to take losses. Along with their parks closing and stock continuing to plummet (which leaves the door open for Apple to make a game-changing move), Disney has had to push back several other high profile films. Mulan, New Mutants, and Antlers all had to be delayed from their March/April release dates. Now, it appears their biggest tentpole of the year Black Widow will also be delayed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Black Widow has been delayed indefinitely due to growing concerns about the Coronavirus, with most…

The Coronavirus continues to greatly impact the film industry, with the release calendar changing drastically over the past two weeks. Summer staples like Fast 9 and No Time to Die have moved to late 2020/early 2021, while film studios like Universal have begun to embrace a new Video On Demand program. Due to the continual limiting of public gatherings (states like Massachusetts have closed most gyms, restaurants, and theaters), theater chains like AMC Theatres and Regal Cinemas are left with no choice but to temporarily close down operations. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that both major theater chains will be shutting down operations, with…

The Coronavirus has taken a toll on all entertainment corporations, even mega giants like Disney. Their latest animated effort Onward tanked at the box office due to the incoming closure of theaters (had an unprecedented 73% drop from its first weekend), while upcoming projects like Mulan and New Mutants had to be delayed indefinitely. With these losses in profits, Disney’s stock has dropped below $100 per stock, leaving the door open for a tech company like Apple to make a game-changing move. The Hollywood Reporter spoke to Rosenblatt Securities analyst Bernie McTernan about Apple’s potential to purchase Disney and its assets during these ever-changing times: “We…

The Razzie Awards have been a staple in Hollywood award season for 40 years, taking a unique approach in highlighting the worst films/actors of a particular year. While a lot of their nominees are a shallow representation of what was bad in a particular year (the same 3/4 movies tend to dominate every category), it’s still amusing to see what films are deemed the worst of their particular year. Due to terrible reviews and an even worse financial performance, its no surprise that Cats took home the top prize. Even though their ceremony was canceled due to the Coronavirus, the Razzies…

Due to the long-term effects of the Coronavirus, many have speculated how film studios will handle the next few months. Many have pushed upcoming projects far away from this time period (No Time to Die moved to November while Fast 9 moved to 2021), but some experts have pushed for studios to embrace a Video On Demand platform. While VOD has been present for over a decade, it has mostly been a canvas for low-budget projects to release directly to audiences. With the current circumstances, Universal has announced a groundbreaking move to release their titles on VOD. According to a Hollywood Reporter…

The Coronavirus and its wide-spread impact is continuing to have an unforeseen impact on all industries, with the United States acting with great precaution to prevent its spread. Whether its the closure of all national sports (MLB, NBA, and NHL might be delayed till June), or the delays of several movies (Mulan, No Time to Die, and Fast 9 among them), the entertainment industry has been put on pause. It looks like this wide-spread effect could also impact Marvel’s latest summer blockbuster Black Widow. The CDC, or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, have announced that they are recommending no social gatherings of more…

Many studios have acted vigilantly to ensure protective measures during the Coronavirus, including the monopoly that is Disney. Along with closing their theme parks, Disney delayed the releases of Mulan, New Mutants, and Antlers over the week, with each of the three projects scheduled to release in the March/April window. Disney has also halted production for most of their projects, including their debut Marvel Studios Disney+ series Falcon and the Winter Soldier. With all of that occurring, it’s no surprise that WandaVision and Loki are also halting production. According to Deadline, Disney has halted production on both projects for an uncertain amount of time, joining most of…

With many movies delaying their release by several months, theaters have drastically decreased their value due to fears about the ongoing Coronavirus. Even with three new releases hitting theaters this weekend, the box office experienced its worst weekend since 2000, with all of the releases combining to earn a mere 56 million dollars. Onward finished in first place after a decent opening last weekend, dropping a steep 73% percent with a 10.5 million dollar gross. Considering animated movies typically hold up well, it’s clear that ongoing fears about the virus had a sizable impact on this film’s financial opportunities. Disney will…
