Growing up a film and television fan in the wonderful state of Massachusetts, he grew a strong attachment to personal dramas. Teaming up his fandom for the world of entertainment along with his love of writing was just an all too natural fit for Matt. He can be often found at the local cineplex, eating at the local restaurants or playing basketball at any basketball court across Mass.

It was no surprise who would claw their way to the top this weekend, but new release Logan certainly did so in impressive fashion. Despite being the first rated R movie to star Wolverine, the film opened this weekend with a bang. Logan grossed an impressive 88.4 million dollars this weekend, making it the highest debut ever for a Wolverine standalone film. Not only that, but its also the highest debut for a film so far this year, besting The LEGO Batman Movie’s debut. Logan’s impressive gross is a substantial deal, as its further proof that R-rated super hero films can succeed in the market place.…

Teenage coming of age flicks come and go, with most of them being a waste of potential. While there are a few notable exceptions, most notably last year’s fantastic Edge of Seventeen, most teenage dramas suffer from playing down to their audience with flat characters and uninteresting story. Looking to buck that trend is Before I Fall. Based on a novel by Lauren Oliver, the film follows Samantha (Zoey Deutch) a high school senior who after a car crash gets caught up in a loop of the same day. She continues to relive the day until she can fix the people around her. Transcending…

The Oscars are here! Whether it’s the celebrity of the show or our love to complain about the constant snubs, the awards show often leads to a great deal of debate. This year’s nine Best Picture nominees all have their fair share of fans, but here is my definitive rankings of this year’s crop. 9. Fences While it ranks as one of the best reviewed films to get nominated for Best Picture, Fences was an easy choice for me as the worst of the nominees. Based on the August Wilson play, the promise of Denzel Washington and Viola Davis sharing the…

Many have chastised Netflix for their weak film library, but they are beginning to make a sincere attempt at improving it. Instead focusing on financing the latest Adam Sandler crap, they have begun to pick up some of the most notable films at different film festivals. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore certainly fits the billing of what Netflix is looking for. This dark comedy follows a depressed woman who deals with being burglarized by seeking out justice along with her neighbor. While this film can’t quite…

Action movies are a dime a dozen, with there being a countless amount released either in theaters or straight to DVD. What differentiates the great action movie from the most forgettable is style and personality. As John Wick 2 showed, the best action movies can be some of the most entertaining expiereneces. Trying to become the next good action film is Collide, which is hitting theaters after being delayed nearly two years. The film follows an American backpacker who must complete a near impossible mission in order to save his girlfriend’s life. Despite featuring a solid cast, Collide is about as forgettable and slight as a…

Ever since the release of its trailer, The Great Wall has been a highly-discussed film for all the wrong reasons. Set in Ancient China and starring superstar Matt Damon, many have blatantly claimed this film as yet another example of whitewashing. That negative buzz has only continued with the film’s release, as it has failed to strike a cord with critics (currently at 38% on Rotten Tomatoes). The Great Wall follows William, a European mercenary on the search for gunpowder. Soon he begins to get involved in China’s epic battle against a horde of monsters, and realizes he needs to fight for a cause.…

Horror anthology films have become fool’s gold of sorts. They entice audiences with unique storylines from talented directors, but have for the most part have not been a sum of their parts. The VHS Series and ABCs of Death were prime examples of this, as the subgenre has yet to have a definitively great film. Looking to turn the tide is XX, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The film is broken up into four different stories, with each being focused and helmed by all-female filmmakers (Roxanne Benjamin, Karyn Kusama, Jovanka Vuckovic, and Annie Clark, who is better…

Even with Marvel continuing to be the ultimate box office juggernaut, no hero can top the incredible run Batman has had on the big-screen. With the release of The Lego Batman Movie, it’s a good time to look back and rank the many adventures the Caped Crusader has had on the big screen. And no, Suicide Squad does not count in my book. 11. Batman and Robin What’s Good: If you are a fan of ice puns, this is movie was made for you. In all seriousness, Joel Schumacher does make an earnest attempt to return the franchise to its 1960’s campy origins.…
