UK based writer and comic book fan. Other opinions are available, but they'll almost certainly be wrong.

Of all the DCEU projects that have been announced so far, few demonstrate the upheaval and issues taking place behind the scenes between DC and Warner Brothers than the Flashpoint movie. It’s easier to list what we don’t know about the project than the things we do, and finding much in the way of positive feeling about the project has been no easy task. Thankfully though, DC Comics fans are a loyal and creative breed (they’d have to be after the debacle that was Justice League), and one of their number has now gone and created a brilliant fan trailer…

Having already completed the site’s Retro Review for The Incredible Hulk (2008), I’m starting to feel like I’ve been cast in the role of apologist for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s least-loved movies. And, you know what? I’m cool with that… It would not be until 2011 that the MCU would finally hit its creative stride. There would be explosive debut features for both Thor and Captain America that set up the action-packed The Avengers – a few hype-heavy months later. But prior to that, the first three years of the franchise were far less rosy for Marvel. That leaves us with…

You can forgive Marvel fans for being less than excited about any news stories that might emerge in relation to the upcoming second season of Marvel’s Iron Fist, but this week saw the first set photos appear online to feature Alive Eve making her debut on the show. The Star Trek: Into Darkness actress was announced in an unnamed role back in December, and due to the fact that the casting call for the series included a female villain by the name of Tanya Parker, it was assumed by commentators that Eve would be playing The Hand assassin known as…

Yesterday saw the arrival of the most important two minutes of your year, as the full-length trailer for next month’s Avengers: Infinity War smashed its way onto the internet. Wow… I mean, to quote Owen Wilson, just wow… Packed with new material that had only been hinted at in the previous two teasers, the new trailer didn’t disappoint, with social media already well and truly saturated with a torrent of memes and Easter eggs that avid Marvel fans just keep on uncovering. We’ve watched, re-watched, and then re-re-watched the trailer, and tied our findings in with a few other details…

Ever since Hugh Jackman filmed his (allegedly) final scenes as Logan last year, online media has been saturated with proposals and theories about who Marvel will eventually find to replace the actor in future Wolverine projects. The fact that the studio went and purchased back the rights to the iconic mutant and his fellow X-men in the immediate aftermath of Jackman’s onscreen death only increased the levels of speculation. Well, this week does indeed see the debut of anther Hollywood A-Lister as the infamous Marvel anti-hero, with Richard Armitage playing Logan in an exciting Marvel venture, Wolverine: The Long Night.…

.The last retro-review I penned for ScreenGeek concerned 2009’s much-maligned Pandorum, and in the body of that article I discussed the concept of science fiction movies that were abject commercial failures, but went on to achieve cult status. It’s somewhat appropriate therefore that my following retro-review covers the movie Sunshine, which fits perfectly into the aforementioned cinematic pigeon hole There’s no denying Director Danny Boyle’s frankly intimidating level of talent. He belongs to that small group of Hollywood heavyweights who have managed to make a series of genuinely iconic movies across a broad spectrum of differing genres. Nestled within his…

If you were expecting Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes (Bucky Barnes to most common folk) to play a significant part in the events of Black Panther, then you may be feeling slightly underwhelmed by his eventual role in proceedings. Rather than seeing Killmonger’s rampaging forces locating the comatose amputee in Shuri’s lab, or having T’Challa defrosting him to help fight for the throne, fans instead had to wait for a brief post-credits appearance, where nothing of any real significance actually seemed to happen. But is Bucky’s appearance in the movie part of Marvel’s plan to make him the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s…

With the huge success of the recent solo series of Marvel’s The Punisher, there was little doubt that more episodes would subsequently get put into production. Recent news stories that have appeared online about the show’s announced second season had suggested that show-runners were in something of a hurry to get new Punisher content filmed and released. Well, set photos that have now appeared on Facebook have demonstrated exactly how much of a hurry that really is. It seemed of late that the ongoing collaboration between Netflix and the televisual arm of Marvel Entertainment had hit something of a rough…

Franchises. Funny old things. They come and go. They get sequelled, prequelled and reboot(ll)ed. But fundamentally they exist in order to generate a buttload of money for their investors, however wildly the quality of their output fluctuates. For a significant number of the older movie franchises, such as Indiana Jones, Aliens and Predator, attempts to revive their past fortunes have met with embarrassing levels of failure. Few though have suffered ignominies and slights on the same scale as that of The Terminator series, which is still going with Terminator 6. Ever since the runaway success of 1991’s T2: Judgement Day,…

Once you remove the ongoing raging debate about gun control, and the glorification of violence on our television screens, it’s hard to find any real criticism about last year’s debut season of Marvel’s The Punisher. Absolutely saturated with deeply emotional storylines, engaging and layered character portrayals with eye-wincing action sequences, the show completely reinvigorated a Marvel/Netflix collaboration that was struggling to bounce back from a number of lackluster recent offerings. The show-runners have immediately sought to capitalize on the much-needed success of the project, with early predictions of a 2019 release date for the second season confirmed by the news…
