It’s quite the list for one single movie, and will probably grow even longer as more information on the movie comes out. There are still, however, quite a few big characters missing from the list. After the Disney FOX deal, many fans thought there could be a chance that we’d see Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine make a cameo appearance in Avengers 4, but that’s not the case – according to Jackman himself:
“…for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together. And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, ‘Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,’ and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline — it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously — I was like, ‘Hang on!’ But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else I would like to see Wolverine in there.”
Okay, so what about the Marvel Netflix characters? That, apparently won’t happen in Infinity War, at least according to Marvel’s Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, who said the role The Defenders play in the movie is none whatsoever:
“Our partners are Marvel, and if we’re doing something that’s counter to [their continuity], they would pull us back or orient us on the right path, so clearly we’re [okay]. But we’re very much in our own world.”
Marvel’s Kevin Feige has said he does expect a crossover at some point – but he’s not sure when:
“…the truth is, I don’t really know, but there are a lot of TV shows being made, and hopefully we’ll continue to make a lot of movies. At some point, there’s going to be a crossover. Crossover, repetition, or something.”
Multiple major characters are expected to be killed off, though, as Feige recently revealed that Thanos does something awful at the beginning of the movie:
“Within the first five minutes of Infinity War, people will understand why Thanos is the biggest and baddest villain in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
You know, we’ve been teasing Thanos since the very first Avengers film. Remember the end of Avengers, the very end of the movie he turns around in the chair and you realize something bad is coming. We’ve been teasing him for years and the trick is when you tease something for that long you have to deliver.”
He’s also said it’ll be an emotional movie for a number of reasons:
“It’ll be emotional for a lot of different reasons. As all our films try to do, we want to have the laughs, we want to have the heart, we want to have the humor, and Infinity War has all of that.”
Infinity War isn’t the only huge film coming up in Marvel’s release schedule. Feige has also said that Avengers 4 will be the start of something new for the MCU:
“There will be two distinct periods. Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after. I know it will not be in ways people are expecting.”
In a different interview, Feige gave other details on the future:
“This original 22-movie arc ends with the untitled Avengers in May of 2019 and then two months later it will be Peter and Spider-Man (on July 5, 2019) that usher us into the aftermath and how things proceed from there.”
We already knew Avengers: Infinity War would be something big, based on the film’s synopsis:
An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.
