Any TV Spot on the Super Bowl, even with less than a minute of actual footage, is always going to garner some big talk and biting down the smallest mundane detail to try and make sense of what to expect. The millions that witnessed splendors this year were really in for some fandom luxuries, from the sneaky release of The Cloverfield Paradox to the over-analyzed teaser (and eventual trailer) of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Not surprisingly, the biggest feature reaction was rooted to the 10 year build-up of the Marvel Cinematic Unvierse’s biggest comic team up yet that is Avengers: Infinity War. Any bit of new footage to showcase the publicity is bound to be met with uproar.
That being said, there was a very interesting snippet from the latest spot showing a close-up of antagonist Thanos with what appears to be a slash from a claw mark. Common assumption would be that of some new gear from one of our notable heroes or, much more likely, a mark left by Wakanda’s protector himself.
But with some recent real world news on joining universes with some familiar mutant friends, there could be something more iconic involved, snikting included. Andrew Ivimey‘s tongue-in-cheek tweet is the first of many Twitter posts floating around that in some light of hope, a Wolverine may have presence in the big hero train.

It’s doubtful that would be the case, since this was planned much earlier than any rights to retain the X-Men properties from 20th Century Fox. Feige even mentioned himself that plans were probably not going to be initiated until after 2019:
“We’re not thinking about it. We’re focusing on everything we’ve already announced. If and when the deal actually happens, we’ll start to think more about it. Until then, we have a lot to do. It would be years away. We’ve announced everything through 2019, so none of those would be adjusted.”
Then again, the sudden purchase of Sony’s Spider-Man to make an appearance in Civil War was a big gamble of time to have our favorite web-head involved in the MCU that fast. Could there be a big curve to throw of what’s to come?
As much as we would hope for that perfect interpretation of the adimantium claws to return, and as much as even members of the cast like Sebastian Stan and Chris Hemsworth want it, we know for certain it won’t be the Hugh Jackman Wolverine. When speaking to Collider back in December, he admitted as much fun as it would be, the days are long gone.
“It’s interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together. And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, ‘Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,’ and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline — it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously — I was like, ‘Hang on!’ But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else I would like to see Wolverine in there.”
Playful theory, a complete coincidence or something deeper is all up to debate now. Whether that would be the case, we know it probably won’t be too long for the fates to fall in a definite crossover., whatever day/year that comes. In the meantime, you can catch one connection: Josh Brolin’s duality as Cable in Deadpool 2‘s release on May 18th and the Mad Titan himself in Avengers: Infinity War on May 4th.
